HEAD COACH PETE HOYER

With over 35 years of coaching experience, Coach Hoyer took over the role of Head Coach for Southern Utah volleyball in March 2018. He is excited to take the Thunderbird's to the top of the Big Sky Conference & become a familiar face in the NCAA.

 

In February of 2021, Coach Hoyer reached 200 wins as a Division I Head Coach and sits at 0.59 win percentage as a Head Coach. In just three season at Southern Utah he has lead the T-Birds to their First Post-Season Win in school history, Highest RPI in school history, and Best Conference record in the Big Sky Era. He has also guided his athletes to dramatic gains in GPA and community involvement.

In his long career, Hoyer has had stops at Texas State, Ohio University, University of Dayton, NC State and most recently UTSA. Throughout his stops he has recruited & coached multiple Conference Rookies of the Year,  Conference Players of the Year, All Conference Players, All Freshman/Rookie Team players and two All-Americans. Coach Hoyer was also named A-10 Conference Coach of the Year in 2001. In total he has been a part of setting over 1,100 school records at previous institutions and participated in one NCAA Tournament appearance.

With a passion for teaching and love of the game, Hoyer wants his athletes to leave SUU having become better volleyball players, better people and having enjoyed their SUU Volleyball experience.
